Things you might not know about me;

1. I’m still in school, looking forwards to getting out of it, though I have to say, I’m absolutely torn. Next year are the college type classes (one, two or three credits a day at the most) so I’m going to look for a steady job. From there, I have to decide if I want to take a gap year before going to university to work. Or if I want to take a year to travel. Or go for my first year with a job and then once I’ve established connections with my class mates take a year to travel. Or take my first year WITHOUT a job and then take a year to work and travel. Shit. In fact, the entire university thing is just terrifying me, especially as there’s difficulties in applying to BC with an Ontario diploma.
2. I was born down in the Sault, which is a notoriously racist city where my dad was placed for his work at the time, and still get weird, shifty looks when people glance at my passport photo. It doesn’t help that I’m white, with brown hair and green eyes. Even though my culture is a weird shamble of Ukrainian-Scottish with healthy doses of Japanese, Chinese and Hungarian. Back to the main thing though, the Sault was a little place. I moved pretty quickly to a big nickel mining city and grew up there. Shitty idea on the part of my parents, it’s left me with crippling asthma, especially in the summer. From there, to where I am now, in our countries noble capital, and here I’ve been for the past decade, enjoying myself thoroughly.
3. That last bit’s not true. I hate where I live now. The city is very plain. Very little fun to be had, very little diversity to be witnessed. Aside from the fantastic theatres, one very high budget and one very low budget and artistic, and the gorgeous art gallery, there’s been nothing really to hold my interest. I intend to end up in BC for university, no matter where. Or, if push comes to shove, Montreal, because even that’s a little more fun.
4. I have never been high of my own free will, although I once managed to get there second hand from being in the front row of a blues concert. I have never been drunk. Nor have I had more than three sips of beer. Which I actually really regret, as it leaves me feeling rather sheltered. Never smoked a single cigarette either, as I’m still really hoping to be an actor and my grandmother died of lung cancer when I was seven and scared the shit out of me.
5. I had, until very recently (read ‘four years’) a speech disorder. I spoke quickly, slurred, and was largely incomprehensible when excited or in a hurry. In an attempt to kick that thing out, I started a speech class. It turned into a drama class. Which turned into a Performance Company. Then a play. Then Jane Austen in the school play. And now I’ve got my grade five Trinity Speech Exam certificate and am looking at audition dates for the GCTC. I love it, and every moment of it, and despite my mother screaming in my ear I still really want to go to SFU for theatre.
6. I’m an Atheist by upbringing. But only because my parents are. Which bothers me a lot. I occasionally sneak into the church near our house on Sunday mornings just to be with people who do that kind of thing because I find it really comforting. Personally I don’t differentiate between science and God. Sounds weird to say, but a basic gist of it is that there is such a thing as evolution, and God created it. Or a force that we have conveniently labeled God and personified as such. However, there’s no way to know or have any idea, that’s just what I choose to believe for my own comfort. It’d be bloody lonely to think there was no one watching.
7. I am very very very afraid of/horrified by/disgusted with the media and fashion industry. For one thing I’ve never really felt pressured to keep up with any sort of fad or concept of what’s ‘in.’ Nor do I understand the need to, so seeing people bending over to do so just makes me blink. Personally I dress a bit like something out of the sixties, unless it’s for something formal or fancier and then I lean towards Rennaisance.
8. I live off fruits and vegetables, and try to only eat free range grain fed meat. It's easier than it sounds, as my aunt is a farmer (the ex-Mormon one) and gives our family stuff at a reasonable price. Though I DO have Really Really Mormons in my extended family. Along with a thousand other colourful characters.
