(no subject)

From Cicero's Second Phillippic against Antony;

"You assumed the manly gown, which you soon made a womanly one; at first a public prostitute, with a regular price for your wickedness, and that not a low one. But very soon Curio stepped in, who carried you off from your public trade, and, as if he had bestowed a matron’s robe upon you, settled you in a steady and durable wedlock. No boy bought for the gratification of passion was ever so wholly in the power of his master as you were in Curio’s."

Yes, the basic founder of legal justice as we understand it today did in fact call MARK ANTONY as in Caesar's buddy a WHORE in a major political speech.

And we thought the politicians of today were mudslingers....

*grins* Oh, yes, yes he did. You should read Rubicon, by Tom Holland. It has ALL the gossip and bicthing that went down.

When I have spare time, I most certainly will. And once I've recovered from having to actually STUDY Cicero. Which won't be for a while. *eyes homework in terror*

I find it's easier knowing that people called him a whiny little bitch, myself.

Hehe, will keep that in mind. And will call Pericles an Ostentatious Fucker to cheer myself up.

*beams* It's all helpful!

But, seriously. Rubicon is the BEST. It's not all about the gossip, obviously, it's also about the last century of the Roman Republic, but it's EXCELLNT and the gossip and bitching sorta bring everyone to life a bit more.
