Martin meets Ramon the Jaguar.

Smooshy again
It wasn't a staring match.
It was solemn green eyes staring into large black ones. Wide, contemplative and weighing a few inches away from the steady inscrutable gaze of a jaguar. The little boy rather bemused, if a little confused. His guardian still fighting to calm his anger, sitting still and staring back and trying to communicate a silent 'Not going to eat you.
It was more of an evaluation.
The tension (for Ramon, at least) build subtly as the baby leans away from the animal because there's the knowledge that this thing is a predator. Ramon, it should be noted, still thinks of Martin as the baby, even though he's really too mobile to honestly fall under that jurisdiction nowadays.
It wasn't going well.
The boy was sensible. He was being respectful, and being worried, and trying to back up because life was not something he was going to gamble. Ramon cringed internally, because you just know Random's going to kill him if he gives the baby nightmares.
So a head bobs forwards, and a long ping tongue darts out to lick up the side of Bug's face and Dear God this is humiliating.
The action is met with an enthusiastic burble, though it's quiet as always, and gentle, grubby hands pushing through his fur, with a short, clear laugh. Maybe this wasn't terrible, after all. It certainly wouldn't be completely undignified if he were to just flop sideways a little.
He was just doing his job. Just keeping the toddler engaged.
If keeping him engaged happened to involve rolling onto his back and wriggling, just a bit, well, we won't mention that. Martin certainly didn't, though he never did talk much. Just set to exploring the new and the big and the cat with another self satisfied burble.
And that's hour Random found them, an hour later, cat flopped on its side, boy curled in the space between its front and back paws, clutching at fur.
He didn't wake them. Just took a quick photo, walked back out of the room, and knocked.
