Apocalypse Now, by Joseph Conrad, pg 32
Having read such things as the Poisonwood Bible, as Jane Austen, as Tom Stoppard, I disagree. Bearing in mind of course that Conrad's book was very presentational, rather than representational. The idea was to promote action rather than empathy, so he can't really comment on the issue in all fairness.
